From its beginnings in 1970 in Woburn, MA, Cummings Properties has evolved into one of Boston's most prominent, full service commercial real estate development and property management organizations. Cummings Properties currently operates 10 million square feet of its own primarily commercial space in 10 metropolitan Boston communities. It is one of the most financially solid real estate firms in the country.
Among the Company's original substantial projects were the landmark Cummings Park, followed by adjacent Tower Office Park, the first major commercial real estate developments at Routes 128 (I-95) and I-93 in Woburn. Since its inception, the Company has served as its own general contractor, and it has built or rebuilt all of its structures. In the mid-80s it began acquiring properties in other communities, almost all of which required substantial renovations or rebuilding. Continuing new construction and acquisitions expanded the portfolio to include 81 large or very large buildings in greater Boston with 2,000 tenant firms. The conveniently located buildings offer offices, executive offices, production and distribution space, and prime restaurant locations. The firm, licensed as a Massachusetts commercial real estate broker, also has numerous buildings particularly suited for research and development work of all types.
In 1996, Cummings Properties' geographic base expanded to include Boston's historic North Shore with the creation of Cummings Center in Beverly. In 2011, the Company further expanded in Beverly with the acquisition of its Dunham Road campus, one of the few remaining highly visible sites directly fronting Route 128. At the center of the tranquil, wooded campus is 50 Dunham, former headquarters of Parker Brothers and Atari. The property is currently being developed and is perfect for corporate headquarters or growing firms with future expansion needs.
On the residential side, Cummings Properties has successfully developed single-family homes, luxury condominiums, and two full-scale Massachusetts retirement communities. The firm completed the 150-unit Place Lane Condominium in Woburn, Massachusetts in 1986, and it is currently constructing 73 luxury residences at Cummings Center, available for pre-sale. Elliott Landing is the only condominium project of its kind in Beverly.
Today, Cummings Properties has more than 350 employees representing the full spectrum of development, management, and construction disciplines. They continue the tradition of service from the Company headquarters at 200 West Cummings Park in Woburn.
An additional 200 dedicated staff members operate two New Horizons retirement communities. The Company has donated $10 million to create these two outstanding not-for-profit independent and assisted living communities, located in Marlborough and Woburn, Massachusetts.
