Diner in the Park opens at Cummings Park

WOBURN, MA, August 1, 2011 – What is Woburn’s best kept secret? It is Diner in the Park, a brand new eatery offering fresh and delicious “classic American food” to eager customers at West Cummings Park.

Many people visiting the diner recognize owners Jimmy and Mary Katsarikas from their days behind the counter of the landmark Grecian Yearning in Allston. That restaurant, which they opened in 1976, was destroyed in a transformer fire in 2008. An establishment that catered to the college crowd, it was at Grecian Yearning that Jimmy earned his nickname: “The Fastest Egg in Town.”

The combination of “real food” and Mary’s winning personality created their loyal following back then, Jimmy said, and is responsible for the enthusiastic lunch lines at their new location.

Customers are raving about the delicious breakfasts, particularly the ample bacon and egg sandwiches and spinach and feta omelets. Lunch favorites include fresh soups, sandwiches, salads, wraps, and burgers, as well as some specialties, including their homemade baklava. The turkey burger with grilled onions and sliced apples is Jimmy’s personal favorite.

All of the food is prepared fresh and to order. “I make it all myself,” Jimmy said. “People are going crazy for it.”

He added, “I’m still the fastest egg in town.”

Laurie Glasser, who works at the Washington Street office park said, “I’m really excited to have a new lunch option in the area. The staff is so friendly and I love the turkey sandwich. You don’t get cold cuts there—it’s fresh, carved turkey. And, it’s delicious.”
