At the forefront of sustainability
In the interest of both social and fiscal responsibility,
we employ several "green" business practices, which
are coordinated by a full-time sustainability manager. These
efforts resulted in the firm being honored with a MassSavers
Business Award in 2010.
New solar panel installation at Beverly's Cummings Center
underway

Electrical team leader Dave McDonald, dispatcher Jeff
Delaney and electrician Brian Lucchesi recently began installing
the solar panel inverters at the Cummings Center as part of
a solar panel project to be completed in October.
From The Beverly Citizen - September 22, 2011
The Cummings Center in Beverly has already begun construction
on a supporting structure that will hold a number of solar
panels above the East Garage, and the work is expected to
continue through mid- to late-October, explained Cummings
Properties Design Manager and Beverly resident Jim Trudeau.
The support structure is nearing completion and the
solar panels, racks and electrical inverters will arrive in
two weeks, Trudeau said.

Solar
Two Cummings buildings are currently outfitted with solar
installations, and future projects are in development. TradeCenter
128's 1,256-panel, 250-kilowatt array, located atop the five-story
parking garage, is one of the most ambitious solar ventures
in the state by a corporation. The electric power generated
is tracked in real-time and can be viewed on the array's
SolrenView webpage.
A 30-kilowatt solar panel array at 8 Cabot Road in Woburn
generates approximately 50 percent of the energy used by common
area systems. Twenty of the 120 panels are installed on the
building's façade. They act as awnings over the south-facing
windows, further saving cooling energy and serving as visible
reminders of the building's energy-saving features.
LEED Certification Standards
Since 1998, when LEED Certification standards were established,
all of our new buildings have been designed using these nationally
accepted benchmarks for the design, construction, and operation
of high-performance green buildings. Additionally, TradeCenter
128 is LEED pre-certified at the Gold level.
Energy Star
Seven Cummings Properties buildings have received Energy
Star ratings, identifying them as being among the most energy
efficient in the nation. These properties include:
- 18 Commerce Way, Woburn
- 196 Boston Avenue, Medford
- 500 Cummings Center, Beverly
- 900 Cummings Center, Beverly
- 92 Montvale Avenue, Stoneham
- 370 Hemenway Street, Marlborough
- 420 Hemenway Street, Marlborough
"Project Green Light"
In a partnership with NSTAR, we are replacing several thousand
light fixtures in our buildings with new energy-efficient
fixtures. In addition to substantial energy savings, it is
estimated that the project will reduce carbon emissions by
480 tons and save more than 775,000 kWh annually - enough
to power 70 typical homes for one year!
